Troubleshooting Guide:
If you need help beyond what is provided by this guide, please call
CPI’s Tech Department at (330) 861-5200) for immediate help.
Commonly occuring troubles:
-
Pump does not move
- Air motor stalled; close the needle valve and
bleed down air pressure to the motor, if possible
move the piston rod manaully a short distance and
then close the bleed valve and slowly open the air
needle valve to the air motor
- Springs are damaged; replace
- Low air supply; increase air supply with air
regulator/open air needle valve/close bleed valve
- Fluid outlet is blocked; check downstream hoses
or check for closed valves
-
Air leaks along piston shaft
-
Air leaks from piston shaft holes
- Contamination by debris in air motor piston;
check and service
-
Slow air motor operations
- Icing of the air motor; allow the build-up to
thaw
- Clogged muffler; clean or replace
-
Low output on both strokes
- Restricted hose access; clean, clear or replace
- Bad fluid seals foot valve or piston cup;
replace
-
Low output on the upstroke
- Bad or damaged piston cup; replace
-
Low output on the downstroke
- Bad or damaged foot valve or ball; replace
-
Leaking fluid through packing at the air motor
- Packings damaged or not seated properly; replace
or set the packings
- Packing nut too loose; tightening down the nut
- Scored or scratched displacement rod; replace
-
Abnormal or rapid operation
- Low or no fluid supply; replenish fluid supply
and reprime the cup
- Broken spring in air motor; replace
-
Jerky movement of the pump
- Packing nut too tight; stop the pump operation,
relieve fluid with the drain valve and loosen
packing then retightening it
-
Pump does not operate
- Air supply or pressure is inadequate or the air
lines are restricted; increase air pressure and
check for any restrictions in the air line
- Dispensing valve is not open or it is clogged;
open and/or clear valve
- Clogged fluid lines, valves, hoses, etc; follow
the pressure relief procedure to clear obstruction
- Damaged air motor; service the air motor
- Depleted or exhausted fluid supply; refill fluid
and prime the system or flush it
-
Non-stop air exhaust
- Worn or damaged air motor, gasket, packing,
seal, etc; service the air motor
-
Erratic pump operation
- Intake valve or packings are worn; refill the
fluid and prime the system
- Intake valve is not completely closed; clear the
obstruction and service the pump
-
Low output on the upstroke
- Clogged or worn piston valve; clear the
obstruciton and service
-
Low output on the downstroke
- Clogged or worn intake valve; clear the
obstruction and service
-
Low output on both strokes
- Restriction in air lines or pressure is too low;
increase the air pressure or supply
- Closed or clogged valves; open or clear the
valve
- Fluid supply is insufficient or exhausted;
refill fluid and prime the sytstem
- Obstructions in fluid lines, hoses, valves, etc;
follow the relief procedure to clear the obstruction
